What is NIPOST?
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is the government-owned postal service of Nigeria. Established in 1985, NIPOST manages mail delivery, postal code assignments, and postal products across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Nigeria's 6-Digit Postal Code System
Nigeria uses a 6-digit numeric postal code system: The 1st digit identifies the postal zone (1-9), digits 2-3 identify the dispatch district, and digits 4-6 specify the delivery area or street.
The 9 Postal Zones
- Zone 1: Lagos, Ogun
- Zone 2: Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Kogi
- Zone 3: Edo, Delta, Ekiti, Ondo
- Zone 4: Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi
- Zone 5: Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom
- Zone 6: Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Gombe
- Zone 7: Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi
- Zone 8: Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kaduna
- Zone 9: FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Benue
